Shaker Style Kitchen Transformation

Project Scope:
This customer’s goals for her kitchen were to increase storage space, improve functionality, and create a custom look with unique shaker style kitchen cabinets and materials.
Project Solution:
In order to meet the customer’s goals, we started by creating a tiered bar eating area on the back of the peninsula that’s much deeper and allows for more comfortable seating. Wall tile was installed over the entirety of the peninsula back to prevent scuffing and scratches. Little touches like this are what make this a quality and one-of-a-kind kitchen.
To create a more updated and upscale look, we extended the kitchen cabinets up to the ceiling and added under cabinet lighting. Not only do the extended cabinets offer more storage space, but they give the kitchen a more grand feel that helps open up space.
Cabinets were extended by building onto the existing ones, and by refacing all old and new cabinet structures with white birch and adding brand new doors, no one will ever be able to tell that they have been modified. Refacing is the ideal way to avoid purchasing brand new cabinets when the ones you have are structurally sound and you just want to update the style or extend them to the ceiling.
New custom cabinetry was constructed for the glass corner cabinet and also in cases where cabinetry width needed to change. In addition to the new corner cabinet, the existing cabinet above the fridge was rebuilt for better accessibility, a floor-to-ceiling pantry was added for increased storage, and many lower cabinets were converted to drawer banks for easier access.
In order to give this kitchen the unique look that the homeowner was looking for, she chose Shaker style cabinet doors that were custom made with select white birch and walnut inlay. She also chose a beautiful Neptune Bordeaux granite countertop that integrates the color of the cabinets, and added a tile backsplash that coordinates with all the elements of the space.
Although the existing commercial, stainless steel stove was an interesting feature, it was not appropriate for the style of the kitchen and we wanted to give our customers a cohesive look. In order to achieve this, the commercial stove was replaced with a standard one that matches the dishwasher, microwave, and fridge, and created new cabinetry around the stove to accommodate the customization level possible with the possible with alteration of exisinets is what makes cabinet refacing an ideal and cost effective solution when changing appliances of different widths.
When this kitchen remodels was complete, our customer loved the finished product and the way we were able to give her the unique design she was hoping for. She first describes seeing her new space, “When I walked into my new kitchen, I thought I died and went to kitchen heaven.” That’s a big win in our books!

Extending kitchen cabinets to the ceiling not only allows for more cabinet space, but it can transform the entire look of a shaker style kitchen and feel of the room. As you can see in this customer’s kitchen, the new cabinets help draw the eye up and make the space feel larger and grander. In addition, extending the cabinets makes better use of the space above them, as the customer wasn’t using it for display or storage.
